Dr. Matthew Campbell supported me in preparing the proposal and the presentation for the Alabama Literacy Association conference. ALA was my first conference ever! I was extraordinarily fortunate to have had the opportunity to go to the conference as a spectator and also as a presenter. I was able to submit a proposal and spread knowledge about something I am extremely passionate about: empathetic teaching and learning.

The session focused on how multiple literacies, cross-content curriculum, and real-world applications can be used to best support empathetic teaching and learning. Part of the session was dedicating to exploring the real meaning behind empathetic teaching and learning, as well as common misconceptions. I ended the session by suggesting an assortment of practical ways that teachers may begin implementing empathetic teaching and learning into their own classrooms.
